How did we get here?
In 2024, we asked you what you thought was special about our CBD and what you believed were the priorities for the future. We also looked at how the city centre is performing against a range of national benchmarks.
Feedback highlighted a range of opportunities, including:
Further detail about what we heard can be found here.
This helped to guide Council in defining the focus areas for the Master Plan to explore in more detail and we've sought the services of a range of technical experts to assist us in developing a CBD Master Plan which will identify the actions required to improve the CBD.
Our community consultation will bring together this technical expertise with the local knowledge of our community to help to build a plan that is grounded and fit-for-purpose for Mount Gambier.
How can I get involved?
From Monday 23 March to Friday 27 March 2026, we're transforming a vacant shopfront at 24 Commercial Street West (formally Youngs the Mans Shop) into a temporary project space.
This will become a focal point for ideas, conversations and activity as we shape the plan. The aim is to bring together technical expertise with local community knowledge and help to form and strengthen key sections of the draft Master Plan.
During this time, community members are invited to:

Is the workshop space accessible to those with mobility or other accessiblity considerations?
The shopfront that we're activating for the consultation is located at 24 Commercial Street West (formerly Youngs the Mans Shop). There are two access points without steps, via automatic entry doors - one directly from Commercial Street West and the other from Commerce Arcade.
Several designated accessible car parks are available in Commerce Place at the rear of the venue, with access possible via Commerce Arcade.
Some accessible seating (raised/adjustable, with arm rests) is available within the workshop space.
Accessible toilet facilities are available within the building and within public conveniences within Commerce Arcade.
The team is committed to maximising the participation of our community within the consultation process. If there is something that we can do to assist your participation within the program, please reach out to the project team prior to your arrival to discuss your needs by calling 8721 2500.
