Council is seeking to better understand how community facilities are currently used and how demand may change over time.
Across the City of Mount Gambier there is a network of facilities that provide spaces for our community to meet, create, deliver services, play and build social connections. Community facilities refer to the physical infrastructure in the form of buildings, storage, places and public spaces that increase community resilience and contribute to a sense of place and belonging.
These highly valued community facilities are located on Council owned or managed land and are leased and/or licensed to community groups, organisations, sporting clubs and services with the purpose of enhancing our communities’ wellbeing, resilience and social connectedness.
We acknowledge that there are lots of factors that impact on club/groups/organisations being able to provide facilities for the community including the increased cost of living, multi-use funding requirements, and decreasing volunteer numbers to name a few. In light of this we want to work with you to support sustainability through creating partnership opportunities, maximising use, collaboration and grants.
Mount Gambier 2035: A Community Vision for our Regional Capital, outlines a number of key strategic priorities and focus areas relating to community facilities. Success in achieving our vision in 2035 when it comes to our community facilities looks like:
Energetic and enthusiastic volunteers engaging in initiatives that provide opportunities for people to connect and contribute to the community
Events, activities and sport and recreation opportunities that are inclusive and accessible to everyone
Diverse recreation spaces that are connected and accessible
Opportunities for people to innovate and find solutions to the issues impacting our region.
To bring this vision to life and support the delivery of the above indicators of success, Council is looking to gain a snapshot of our existing network of community facilities. The aim of the snapshot is to increase our understanding of and respond to the unique needs and opportunities for Mount Gambier’s community facility users both now and into the future.
To achieve this, we are asking for feedback by completing a:
Tenant survey - for community organisations with existing tenancies in Mount Gambier
Community survey - for community organisations or groups that are seeking a space to support their current or future activities.
There are three stages to develop the Community Facility Snapshot:

This survey is for community organisations with existing tenancies in Mount Gambier. The questions will help us understand your current activities and usage needs and should take approximately 7 minutes to complete.
This survey is for community organisations or groups that do not currently have a tenancy within a community facility but are seeking access to a space to support their current or future activities. The survey should take approximately 7 minutes to complete.
