What is a pump track?

    A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by “pumping”, generating momentum by up and down body movements instead of pedaling or pushing. A pump track is a circuit typically about a quarter of the size of a BMX track.

    They were originally designed for mountain and BMX bikes but now, due to concrete constructions, are also used by skateboard and scooter riders. 

    Why is Council building a pump track?

    Council has received numerous requests for a facility of this type from as part of consultation for the Youth Engagement Strategy and the State Government ‘Fund My Neighbourhood’ program. The track will be designed to cater for all abilities, encouraging community spirit, learning and promote an active outdoor lifestyle for all. 

    When will the pump track be constucted?

    The track was constructed during the fourth quarter of 2019 and opened to the public in early December of the same year.

    The pump track was designed, and construction led by Velosolutions,a global leader in pump track and trail building, who have constructed more than 45 pump tracks all over the world.

    Why is Velosolutions constructing the pump track?

    Velosolutions is the exclusive designer and builder for the Red Bull Pump Track World Championships and have constructed over 45 pump tracks worldwide.

    The construction of the pump track by Velosolutions will allow Mount Gambier to host the Red Bull World Cup qualifiers. This will provide international exposure for and promotion of Mount Gambier and will deliver substantial tourism and economic benefits by attracting visitors to the City to spectate and participate in events at the pump track.
