The City of Mount Gambier recognises the value of volunteering for the Mount Gambier community.

As an organisation, Council directly recruits and coordinates volunteers and works in partnership with community groups and service providers to support the delivery of activities and programs across the city.

Council identified the development of a Volunteer Strategy within its 2018/2019 Business Plan. This strategy will define a vision and initiatives for Council to support and manage volunteering in the organisation and become a leader in the city.

The volunteer strategy will explore:

  • our current volunteer practices
  • our requirements for volunteering and future opportunities in this space
  • Council's performance against the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement
  • initiatives to promote best practice in volunteering, and
  • opportunities to better support volunteering within Council and the broader community.
