The Local Government Act (1999) requires all Councils to periodically review their composition and structure.

This review considers elements such as:

    • the configuration of the principal member of Council (Elected Mayor or Chairperson)
    • the composition and division of the Council including the total number of elected members and the need for area or ward councillors
    • the division of Council into wards or the retention of the existing ‘no wards’ structure
    • the level of ward representation; and
    • the naming of wards.

In July this year, the City of Mount Gambier invited interested community members to review an options paper and provide feedback on the various options available.

A report detailing the review process has been prepared which includes a proposed structure and composition of Council.

Feedback on the proposed structure is currently sought from the community - more information

The City of Mount Gambier is continually reviewing how it manages waste.

Waste collection and disposal – including general waste, recycling, and organics – is one of the most significant activities that Council undertakes – both in terms of resources and finances.

Currently, Council is wanting to get a better understanding of how Mount Gambier residents manage their organic material – food scraps and garden waste – and their attitudes towards organic waste management.

We seek you input into an online survey of attitudes and practices around management of waste organics.

Mount Gambier residents who participate in this survey will assist this aim, and can go into the draw to win a free worm farm or compost bin valued at over $50.

The City of Mount Gambier is calling for community input into an online survey about the role that CCTV plays in changing our perceptions of safety in the inner-city.

In November it was announced that Council would replace numerous out-dated cameras across the City with the introduction of 23 state of the art CCTV devices. This project was assisted by a State Government grant of $40,000 from the Attorney-General’s Department.

The roll out of the new cameras will be the first major upgrade of the city’s CCTV system in 20 years.

As part of the introduction of the new cameras, the Attorney-General’s Department and Council is seeking feedback from the community regarding the extent that CCTV contributes to city users feeling safe at various times of the day or night.

Community input will also help to identify the level of awareness of the CCTV network and its effectiveness as tool in the prevention of crime.

The survey can be found here.

The Draft City of Mount Gambier Regional Public Health Plan 2015-2020 has been developed in accordance with the South Australian Public Health Act 2011. This is the first plan developed under the legislation which identifies that Council is the relevant local public health authority for its area. Public consultation is being held on the draft plan from Tuesday 26th May – Friday, 19th June 2015 (inclusive).

This plan assesses Councils current actions towards public health and highlights eleven priority areas for our community, which Council will endeavour to target over the five year duration of the plan.

During the implementation of the Regional Public Health Plan Council will aim to work in partnerships with local and State businesses and organisations to ensure effective action is taken to preserve, protect and promote public health within its area. Council would like to identify these groups, businesses and organisations who have an interest in one (or more) priority areas by them completing the Potential Partnerships Survey.

The Draft City of Mount Gambier Regional Public Health Plan 2015-2020, Potential Partnerships Survey and further information can be viewed on Have Your Say (www.haveyoursaymountgambier.com.au/regional-public-health-plan).
